Coronation Streets Luke Delaney rushed to hospital and shares snap of serious injury
Coronation Street star Luke Delaney, who played Dave Fairchild in the ITV soap, was rushed to the hospital after suffering from a knee injury.
The actor updated his fans on his injury as he shared a snap to social media while he was sat in a waiting room, with his leg in a brace, at Wythenshawe Hospital in Greater Manchester.
Luke, who is also a bodybuilder, claimed the injury was either an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) or medial collateral ligament (MCL) as he captioned the post: “One injury after another this year. Potential MCL/ACL tear now”.
The ACL and the MCL are both ligaments that support and stabilise the knee, according to Speciality Orthopaedics.
The website definition states: “ACL is the anterior cruciate ligament that keeps your shinbone from sliding forward. MCL is the medial collateral ligament that prevents your femur from sliding from side to side. A knee injury can damage either of these ligaments”.
The potential injury followed after the star made his debut as a player for Sale FC Rugby. Discussing the match, which took place earlier this month, Luke said: “It’s been 8 years since I last played a game of Rugby so it was a proud moment to pull the jersey on for @salefc yesterday and get 40 minutes against @rygbi_rgc in a pre-season friendly over in Wales.
“Even more proud to score a TRY on my debut.”
The actor first appeared on Coronation Street in 2022 and appeared in 15 episodes before leaving the show in 2023. He played a major part in the storyline where Max Turner was radicalised into a far-right extremist group.
Speaking on his role in the soap, he said: “We gelled so well together to bring this extremely sensitive & emotionally challenging story to life. Raising awareness to the very real problem of gangs grooming young, vulnerable teenagers into their radical way of thinking. In this case, the grooming of Max Turner.”
Upon leaving his role in Coronation Street, the actor said on his Instagram: “It’s been a crazy 6 months since joining the cast back in August last year, and i’m extremely grateful to have worked with a team of insanely talented people at @ITV Studios to bring this storyline to screen.”
He continued: “I’ve said it before but the support I’ve received both inside and outside of the show really has been overwhelming so thank you, Onto the next.”
Luke has also played a role in the hit TV show Peaky Blinders along with Hollywood A-listerCillian Murphy.
