Tommy Mallet shares adult ADHD diagnosis: ‘I was forgetful – it was a struggle’

Tommy Mallet and Georgia Kousoulou's relationship was at breaking point before he received his ADHD diagnosis.

The engaged couple weren't getting on and Georgia, who suspected he had the condition, gave him an ultimatum to get help or she would leave him.

Speaking on his symptoms, former TOWIE star Tommy, 30, told us: "I started being really forgetful. That was a struggle. I had no control over what I was saying. It got really bad. There are things that aggravate it – I need to keep stress in check and stick to a routine and diet.

"I always used to wonder why on holiday I did work. I could sit down for about a day and then I’d have to be obsessed with something."

Georgia, who shares 18 month old son Brody with Tommy, was the one who recognised the symptoms in her fiancé and says while she knew they weren't getting on, there was more to it.

"I was looking at these behaviours and noises like the baby crying was a trigger. It kept coming up as ADHD," she said.

"I knew it wasn’t right. We were on holiday in Majorca and I got a flight home early. The baby came with me. I just wanted to get home and when I got back I said to him, “I think you have ADHD and you need to get tested. Either you get help or I’m going. I can’t do it any more.”

Tommy then went to a doctor and got his diagnosis.

He continued: "The ADHD was like an excuse for acting the way I did when I was going through a hard time. I always thought I had a stressful job, filming the show, working constantly. Going around the world, having a baby, we bought another house, dealing with all of that. I’m just glad that I confronted it early. Now my life is different."

This Wednesday the couple's fly-on-the-wall show returns to ITVBe and will document Tommy's diagnosis to viewers – something he's thrilled about.

"This is going to be a big series and it’s going to help a lot of people so I’m over the moon about it," he said. "When I first got the diagnosis I thought, “Well, I’m not just mad.”'

While Georgia is also happy they showed the tough parts.

"We all thought we’d be talking about wedding stuff as we got offered a new series around that, but we had to be honest," she explained.

"We could have filmed this series like, “Here’s all our wedding stuff,” but that would’ve been a lie. You’d see the cracks. When we agreed to do this series it was real life and I’m not here to show a perfect life. It’s our reality. Life is hard at times."

The new series of Georgia And Tommy: Baby Steps starts on Wednesday, 9pm, ITVBe
