Sir Tom Jones, 81, was married to his childhood sweetheart Linda, who died following a short battle with cancer in 2016. The Delilah singer had an affair with The Supremes star Mary Wilson in 1968, a decade into his marriage.
The Welsh-born performer revealed that the two women had become friends and stayed close to Mary up until her death aged 76, reports the Mirror Online.
The legendary crooner explained that Linda and Mary had met and the latter became a “family friend”.
Tom admitted that he was “happily married” to his late partner and had previously said that Linda is the “most important thing in my life”.
Addressing his relationship with The Supremes singer, the Sex Bomb star said that they had a “flirtatious” friendship.
Tom said: “In those days in the 60s we did get close I must admit. I can’t deny that.
“But she got to meet my wife because I was still happily married. Honestly. And they became friends.”
He continued: “She became a friend of the family. She knew my son.
“What started off as a flirtatious thing turned into a genuine friendship and we stayed like that up until she passed away.”
In unearthed interviews, Mary said she fell in love with Tom and didn’t see their fling as a “mistake”, speaking out years later.
She also said she didn’t realise he was married when it began.
In her 1986 best-selling memoir Dreamgirl: My Life As A Supreme, she said of her fling with Tom: “He had other girls – I was just one of them – but I loved him.
“He broke my heart, we had to quit. He was married and it couldn’t go on.”

In an interview with The Times in 2019, she said the affair “wasn’t the nicest thing to do”.
The singer commented: “When you’re young, you make mistakes. But things are what they are.
“I don’t see my affair with Tom Jones as a mistake, not really.
“As an adult, I can look back and see that he was married and say, ‘That wasn’t the nicest thing you could do,’ but when you fall in love, you don’t always see those things.”
In the biography Tom Jones: The Life by Sean Smith, his former publicist Chris Hutchins shared details on Linda’s reaction to his affair with Mary.
The book stated Linda found out about Mary’s visit and went over to “sort him out”.
Linda threatened to castrate her husband saying: “You’d better straighten it out, because you won’t be able to do anything without your balls.”
She died in 2016 aged 75, after 59 years of marriage to her childhood sweetheart.
