Singer Tom Grennan reveals he was robbed in an unprovoked attack outside a bar in Manhattan after a show and is recovering in hospital

  • The 26-year-old U.K. singer-songwriter was performing at The Bowery Ballroom in New York City on Wednesday
  • He revealed in an Instagram statement that he was attacked and robbed unprovoked outside of a bar in Manhattan
  • While the singer is in good spirits, he is allowing himself time to recuperate and thus canceling his Washington D.C. performance on Friday
  • It’s unclear if other future performances will be canceled at this time
  • His injuries include a ruptured ear, torn eardrum and an ‘issue with a previously fractured jaw’

Singer-songwriter Tom Grennan revealed that he was attacked and robbed in New York City after a performance on Wednesday evening.

The 26-year-old Bedford UK native was performing at The Bowery Ballroom in New York City on Wednesday, and took to his Twitter and Instagram on Thursday to reveal he was attacked unprovoked after the show.

Grennan’s manager, John Hawkins, released a statement on the singer’s Instagram, revealing he is in ‘good spirits’ but also that he is canceling his Friday night performance in Washington D.C.

‘In the early hours of this morning after Tom’s New York show he was the victim of an unprovoked attack and robbery outside a bar in Manhattan,’ the statement began.

‘Tom is currently in (the) hospital being assessed by doctors for his injuries which include a ruptured ear, torn eardrum and issue with his previously fractured jaw,’ the statement continues. 

‘Despite this Tom is in good spirits but needs to temporarily recuperate whilst doctors assess his ability to continue with his touring,’ the statement adds.

‘Tom is desperate not to let anyone down, however we have taken the precautionary decision to postpone the Washington show tomorrow to a later date, with details to follow’ the statement adds.

The statement is referring to his Friday night show at the Miracle Theatre in Washington D.C.

‘We will update future shows should changes need to be made. We wish to thank Tom’s incredible US fans for their support and understanding,’ the statement concludes.

After the now-canceled Washington D.C. performance, Grennan only has three more scheduled stops on his US tour.

He’s scheduled to perform at Brighton Music Hall in Boston on Saturday, April 23, Rickshaw Stop in San Francisco on Tuesday, April 26 and The Troubador in Los Angeles on Wednesday, April 27.

He has just over a month hiatus after the Los Angeles stop before he kicks off the UK leg of his tour in Cork, Ireland at The Marquee on May 31. 

Tour stops: After the now-canceled Washington D.C. performance, Grennan only has three more scheduled stops on his U.S. tour

Grennan has released two studio albums, 2018’s Lighting Matches and 2021’s Evering Road, the latter of which topped the UK album charts.

He had his first UK Top 10 hit last year with Little Bit of Love, which peaked at #7 and was certified Silver by the BPI.

He also had a Top 10 hit with Let’s Go Home Together, a collaboration with singer Ella Henderson.
