In addition to offering houses for sale, private landlords, in addition to having a monopoly on housing, are also in a position to set prices. A single person is lucky to be able to afford it, let alone the two person unit they advertise. This situation has resulted in a housing crisis in many areas. In San Francisco, the housing shortage is so great, that people are sleeping on the streets in an effort to find something to live in. This is not something that is going to get better anytime soon, the people are going to have to fight for housing, and they arent going to be doing it on the cheap.
