Its time to get the word out on the first part of our new series on the best free and open-source web frameworks, because now is the time when newcomers can learn a good thing. If youre new to the idea, you might be wondering what these frameworks do. And really, the good thing is, you dont need to know a lot about web development to pick one up. In fact, there are quite a few frameworks available, and you can pick which one suits you best. The problem is, the libraries, such as Sass, Compass and Handlebars, are in constant flux, and often feature features that are no longer needed. In other words, its always good to look for a framework that is more stable and has been around for a while so you can get the best bang for your buck. Web frameworks give us a way to define our HTML that is the same for every specific piece of content we have on the web. HTML, CSS, JavaScript in a bunch of different languages, and PHP all come together to make up the skeleton of this web content. HTML is designed to be a way for us to build HTML. CSS is meant to make the appearance of HTML better, thats what we use to make the website look nicer. And then of course we make sure that the code is easily readable so that we know what were doing. Web frameworks help us organize this content. For one example, we might have some kind of login and registration procedures. So we might start off with a login form to make sure were saving the right information, and later, we might have a form to create a user for our application, that is a database entity that we have that can be used to create users. Now, if we didnt have these web frameworks, we couldnt organize the content in a manner that it could be re-used. We might have something like a website with a forum, where users can post and interact. We might have a forum where we have users posting their music, or news or whatever. On the flip side, having frameworks helps us to get our content up faster. If we want to have some sort of interactive feature, we have to have some sort of framework to do it.
