Phillip Schofield’s wife very, very angry to learn he had lied about affair

Phillip Schofield: ‘It was consensual, but it was my fault’

Shamed TV presenter Phillip Schofield, 61, has confessed that his wife Stephanie was “very, very angry’” when he told her of his affair with a younger male colleague.

She had previously questioned her husband of 27 years about allegations that he was seeing the younger man and he had insisted that his lover was “just a friend and colleague”.

Having not been seen in public since his bombshell statement about his indiscretion on Friday last week, yesterday Phillip gave not one but two interviews about the subject.

Baring his soul as he recalled the events leading up to his fall from grace, he detailed the moment he told his spouse about his dalliance.

“She got off a plane and I phoned her up and texted saying, ‘I need to talk to you’,” he told The Sun.

Admitting that he didn’t actually tell her face to face, he recalled: “She called back, and I told her. She was very, very angry.”

The former This Morning host acknowledged that he had previously misled her about the relationship.

Confessing that she had previously asked him about it, he said that he told her: “It’s untrue, it’s b*****ks.”

Despite the fact that he came out as gay in February 2020, Phillip and his wife were apparently still close.

They even attended the star-studded 50th birthday party of TV’s Leigh Francis (A.K.A Keith Lemon) together in April this year.

Phillip had also continued to wear his wedding ring despite his public coming out.

However, reportedly recent revelations have taken their toll on the woman who stood by him as he admitted his sexuality.

“Steph is absolutely devastated; she had no idea of any of this. She is a trusting woman who has supported Phil for many, many years so this has been a real shock to her,” the Daily Mail quoted a source as saying.

“Phil always positioned the man as a friend so that has prompted a fair bit of anger, to put it mildly.

“It is literally the most heartbreaking thing that could have happened to Steph, it isn’t just the relationship but the deceit.”

In February 2020, after coming out on This Morning, the presenter posted an insight into the difficult process in view of his 2.9 million Instagram followers, insisting that he had the support of his wife and daughters.

“You never know what’s going on in someone’s seemingly perfect life, what issues they are struggling with, or the state of their wellbeing – and so you won’t know what has been consuming me for the last few years,” he wrote.

“With the strength and support of my wife and my daughters, I have been coming to terms with the fact that I am gay.

He said: “[There were] lots and lots of hours talking to Steph and hugging Steph. We talked the whole thing through. There were no secrets, there have never been any secrets.

“What I knew, she knew. It’s not in my nature to hurt people,” he added.
