The cause of death is not yet known, but the circumstances surrounding the death are unusual in the extreme. In what seems like a miracle, his body was found on Christmas Eve, sitting upright, with one hand by his side. In his left hand, he had placed a cassette tape containing an unknown track featuring lyrics he had been working on. He had apparently been sleeping but awoke sometime that day and, when his girlfriend woke up, saw him on the sofa with his head resting on the tape. Gorillaz made it seem like they were ready to make a major comeback, but they never did. Its not like the members of the band would just walk away from their success and cash out. Theyve only had one album which they never really got around to promoting. But in the meantime, theyve spent a massive amount of money on their personal lives. Which is why its so difficult to understand the way they handled their death, especially when theres a lot of speculation that the band was forced to make a public statement to save face in the wake of last years tragedy. While the album is on a lot of other year-end best-of lists, including ours its actually actually in the bottom three for most album sales. Some of it has to do with it not being in the top 10 for sales that year, but that shouldnt diminish the importance of the album because of those facts.
