A close friend of The Princess of Wales has revealed that the royal greets everyone with a “big hug and a kiss” in an interview with People Magazine.
The admission came less than a week after Kate Middleton was criticised for remaining “formal” behind closed doors in the Sussex’s new Netflix documentary.
Meghan Markle told filmmakers that she was shocked by the formalness of her first meeting with Kate.
“Even when Will and Kate came over and I was meeting her for the first time I remember I was in ripped jeans, I was barefoot," she said.
Continuing, she explained how the royals struggled to relax away from the public eye.
Meghan said: “There is a forward-facing way of being and then you close the door and you relax now. But that formality carries over on both sides. And that was surprising to me.”
However, a source close to the princess has contradicted this, telling People magazine that Kate is “a big hugger”.
They said: “She is warm and friendly and greets everyone with a big hug and kiss. It comes naturally to her to be like that…”
Despite the strained relationship between the Sussexs and the Cambridges, the Prince of Wales “won’t tolerate” others speaking negatively about Prince Harry.
In recent years, the pair have become distant after Meghan and Harry stepped down as senior members of the Firm and moved to the US.
Though Prince William feels immense “anger and sadness” over the ITV interview and Netflix docuseries, a source told The Telegraph that he remains incredibly protective of his younger brother.
They told the paper: “Working together will never happen. But can they be brothers again? You’ve got to hope.”
Prince William and other senior royals have refused to comment on the recent Netflix series, vowing to keep a “dignified silence” over the documentary.
Instead, the Royals have opted to focus on the engagements such as the Prince and Princess of Wales’ recent trip to the US.
The pair were presenting the Earthshot Prize in a glitzy ceremony held, which saw Billie Ellish, Annie Lennox and Ellie Goulding perform.
However, many royal fans will be turning their attention to the latest instalment of Harry and Meghan’s docuseries which will be released on 15 December.
In the trailer, Prince Harry spoke about the couple’s decision to retire from royal duties following threats to his wife’s life.
In a heartbreaking moment, the Prince revealed that he was frightened to remain in the UK, telling filmmakers: “I wonder what would’ve happened to us had we not got out when we did.”
Though the decision would come to define the couple and result in an intense backlash, the Duke of Sussex said that the move was the “next chapter”.
“It gave us the chance to create that home that we had always wanted.”
