Karren Brady, 52, has slammed Instagram trolling as The Apprentice star opened up about how her influencer daughter manages her use of it. The entrepreneur also hit out at filters for young girls feeling like they have to alter their pictures on the social media site.
Karren has called out “unrealistic standards” on social media in her latest column.
The Baroness slammed the picture-sharing platform Instagram for “making body-image issues worse”.
Karren fumed at how when people share natural pictures of their lives, they are at risk of getting trolled.
She penned: “They are too fat, ugly, a s*** or a b**** — all the hate words used to target women’s self-esteem.
“It’s often spiteful and always driven to make people feel bad and the bullies feel better.
“What frustrates me is that Instagram has the power to stop it but chooses not to. That’s unacceptable and there should be serious consequences.”
The Apprentice star also opened up to The Sun about how her own daughter has experienced this.
Karren’s daughter Sophia Peschisolido is an Instagram model with more than 365,000 followers.
The 24-year-old star posts snaps of her style as well as gorgeous bikini snaps on the platform.
This sees her working with brands like Boux Avenue, Pretty Little Thing and Bali Body.
However, even stunning Sophia has been at the receiving end of trolling, as Karren shared her advice to her daughter.
“She has had more than her fair share of trolls,” Karren added. “But she has got to grips with it and learned to ignore the jealousy.
“She now agrees with me that it’s more important what you think of yourself rather than what people you have never met think of you.”
Elsewhere, Karren uses her own Instagram to air career achievements or to share her thoughts on news stories.
The business woman recently praised US Open winner Emma Raducanu for her “grit” and “talent”.
The star went through qualifiers to go on and win the Grand Slam tournament last weekend.
Taking to her own Instagram, the Baroness posted following the 18-year-old’s impressive win.
She penned: “Wow! Congratulations to the incredible @emmaraducanu on her win at the #usopen.
“First British woman to win a Grand Slam title in 44 years, and the youngest Women’s Major Champion in 17 years.
“Her grit, talent and determination are an inspiration. What a woman!”
