Jeremy Vine took to Twitter and addressed a social media user’s rant after he recently posted a snap on the micro-blogging site. The Channel 5 presenter could be seen smiling with his arm wrapped around his wife Rachel Schofield inside the ITN studios.

The person in question fumed: “Nice bit of social distancing there @JeremyVine. What would you call anyone for doing this #hypocrite?”

However, unbeknownst to the commentator, it was, in fact, Jeremy’s wife who he was pictured with.

The Channel 5 host retweeted the post and penned, in view of his 760,000 followers: “I’ll let my wife know your thoughts.”

Following the social media user’s error, they later apologised for “casting judgement” without knowing the couple’s relationship and deleted the tweet.

They penned: “Haha took it down once I looked on her feed and noticed, too quick to rage today, apologies. Had enough of covid flouting and was on a moan, was literally up for a minute. Man enough to apologise when clearly wrong.”

Jeremy replied: “Wife says, ‘Hi,’ xx” before adding: “Don’t you worry.”

The social media user went on: “Will be getting grief all night but shall take it like a naughty child.”

The person in question also issued an apology to Jeremy’s wife for their error.

The person concluded: “No excuse for not researching before casting judgment.

“Very frustrated with the risk of my children being off school again because the government won’t shut pubs which is causing 18-30-year-old spikes.”

It comes as the UK Government has enforced strict guidelines on interacting with members of the public following the coronavirus pandemic.

Britons have been urged to remain two metres apart in order to safeguard people in a bid to slow the spread of Covid-19.

However, the same rules do not apply to family members who live in the same household.

Jeremy’s response to the social media user comes after he praised his wife for supporting him on his morning programme this week.

Sharing a series of snaps of Rachel, he wrote: “Thank you @RSchofieldTV for being my broadcast buddy this week @ITNProductions @channel5_tv @JeremyVineOn5 @itn @IJRumsey @Jenny_Line @ianjones5news.”

Fans flocked to comment on the post, as one person chimed: “Absolutely love you both Jeremy and Rachel. Fabulous team Jeremy and Rachel! Bounced off each other brilliantly Jeremy and Rachel (Fantastic laugh). Remember watching Newsnight around early 2000 sure you both were on Jeremy and Rachel (If my memory serves me correctly).”

“Very enjoyable programmes from the both of you this week, and was an amazing mix of fantastic guests. You make a good stand in for storm, Jeremy has been very well behaved this week ..wait till Storm is back. The Mr/Mrs slot was brilliant. Thoroughly enjoyed this week’s shows,” another person gushed.

While a third person added: “You were great together – as one might have hoped and indeed, have expected!”

Rachel, who has extensive experience in television, stepped in for Jeremy’s co-host Storm.

It’s the first time the pair had ever worked together on screen, with Jeremy admitting he’s “terrified”.

Jeremy Vine airs weekdays from 9:15am on Channel 5.
