Holly Willoughby, 40, appeared on This Morning today and discussed her difficulty growing any fresh produce in her vegetable patch at home. However, the reason behind her bad luck was quickly outed by her co-host Phillip Schofield, 59, who informed her that she was doing it all wrong.

I don’t know what’s happening

Speaking matter-of-factly, the TV star told her colleague: “I’ve got some good looking corn on the cob, the green sprouts coming out of the top of it.

“I don’t know what is happening underneath, that’s the problem.

“I go to dig them up and there’s nothing under there,” she added.

There was a brief silence, as Phil looked at Holly with confusion.

He responded: “Corn on the cob grows off the plant though, not underneath it.”

Holly appearing gobsmacked, continued: “Does it? I’m looking in the wrong place.”

Phil laughed: “It’s not in the root.”

Holly retorted: “I thought it was like a carrot.”

By this point, the pair were in complete hysterics over the absolutely hilarious mishap.

Phil quipped: “No wonder you’re not getting any, you are digging the plant up.”

They then cut to their gardening expert on location, who was also in hysterics.

Holly shared the humorous clip on her Instagram page alongside the caption: “What an utter corn on the cob.”

In response, her celebrity friends and fans alike shared their appreciation of the segment.

TV host Kate Thornton commented: “This is so genius.”

One follower typed: “Just brilliant.”

A second replied: “Made my day.”

While a fourth remarked: “What a pair.”

Showing her ability to laugh at the mishap, Holly later uploaded another post to Instagram listing all the things she “did not know” about corn.

Including that the vegetable does not “grow underground like a carrot”.
