Greg Wise is expected to be supported by his wife Emma Thompson again as he hits the Strictly Come Dancing dance floor for week two. The pair first met on the set of Sense and Sensibility when Emma was going through a “painful” divorce with Kenneth Branagh.

During last week’s show, Emma and her daughter Gaia Wise were front and centre to support Greg on the dance floor.

The couple has been married since 2003 after they first met on the set of Sense and Sensibility.

Emma was in the process of ending her marriage to director Kenneth at the time.

They had been married for six years before they announced their separation in September 1995.

The actress has opened up about how she and Greg first started dating in an unearthed interview.

During an appearance on Desert Island Discs back in 2010, Emma said Greg was there to “pick up the pieces” after her divorce.

“It was tough, I think I probably should have sought professional help long before I actually did for all sorts of reasons,” she explained.

“Yes, divorce, ghastly, painful business but also fame in some ways ghastly, painful business as well.”

Emma candidly revealed she was very much not married by the time she met Greg, saying it was “all in flames”.

The actress added: “In a sense work saved me and then Greg saved me because he picked up the pieces and put them back together again after Sense and Sensibility.”

This isn’t the only time Emma has opened up about how she and Greg began dating, admitting he actually took Kate Winslet on a date first.

Appearing on The Graham Norton Show back in 2020, she said: “Before he did the job, he went to see a friend of his who was a bit witchy and she said he would meet his future partner on the film [Sense and Sensibility].

“He assumed it wasn’t me because I was married and quite a lot older than him so he thought it might be Kate.”

Emma shared how her now-husband took Kate to Glastonbury festival on a date.

“She was so bored, and he thought, ‘This isn’t going to work, who can it be?’” she added.

“Then things happened that probably shouldn’t have happened, and it’s been 25 years in May.”

Greg is partnered up with Karen Hauer on Strictly, with the pair set to perform a Couple’s Choice dance this weekend.

However, during an appearance on It Takes Two earlier this week, Greg admitted Emma had burst into tears watching him dance.

He said: “The evening before the show I said to Em, ‘would you like to watch a video of us in rehearsals?’

“And she said, ‘yes I think I would’, and she watched it and burst into tears!

“Good tears I was told, which I think took the sting out of it slightly for her on Saturday night so at least she had some kind of idea of what was coming.”
