Not only fans, some celebrities have made use of their social media platforms to show support to the the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ actor amid Johnny and Amber Heard’s feud over the years.
AceShowbiz –Johnny Depp and Amber Heard‘s defamation trial is one of the much-talked-about topic in the recent weeks. As the trial is proceeding, people are divided into two teams, Team Johnny and Team Amber.
Not only fans, some celebrities have made use of their social media platforms to show support to the feuding pairover the years. Some stars have shown support to the “Pirates of the Caribbean” actor during both the 2020 U.K. trial agains The Sun newspaper for calling him a “wife beater” and the current trial which is taking place in Virginia.
Here are some celebrities who openly showed support for the “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” actor.
1. J.K. Rowling
J.K. Rowling is one of those in Team Johnny. The “Harry Potter” author wrote supportive messages to Johnny amid his legal troubles on her website back in 2017.
“Based on our understanding of the circumstances, the filmmakers and I are not only comfortable sticking with our original casting, but genuinely happy to have Johnny playing a major character in the movies,” she wrote at the time in response to the actor’s departure from “Fantastic Beasts” franchise.
She continued, “I’ve loved writing the first two screenplays and I can’t wait for the fans to see The Crimes of Grindelwald. I accept that there will be those who are not satisfied with our choice of actor in the title role. However, conscience isn’t governable by committee. Within the fictional world and outside it, we all have to do what we believe to be the right thing.”
2. Penelope Cruz
Penelope Cruz and Johnny, who have worked together in 2001’s “Blow“, 2011’s “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides“, and 2017’s “Murder on the Orient Express“, declared her support for her co-star amid his libel case against the U.K. newspaper. “I met Johnny when I was 19 years old,” Penelope wrote.
“He was in Madrid and Pedro Almodovar introduced him to me. The only sentences I knew how to say in English at that time were, ‘how are you’ and ‘I want to work with Johnny Depp,’ ” she continued. “Many years have passed and I have not only made 3 movies with him, but I also count on him as a great friend. I’ve always been impressed by his kindness, his brilliant mind, his talent, and his peculiar sense of humor. I’ve seen Johnny in so many situations and he is always kind to everyone around. He is one of the most generous people I know.”
Sia Furler also showed public support for Johnny. In a now-deleted tweet shared back in October 2020, the “Chandelier” hitmaker wrote, “Just showing my public support for Johnny Depp.”
She went wrote on to write in the tweet, which gained over a hundred of likes, “I mean, I’d love him to get clean and stop with the jewelry, but he is clearly the victim after hearing those tapes.”
4. Javier Bardem
During Johnny’s U.K. trial in 2020, Javier Bardem issued a statement about his “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” co-star. “I love Johnny. He has always been a true gentleman and an extremely generous and caring friend to my family and myself,” Javier wrote in his statement, adding that Johnny always showed “respectful attitude towards every single member of the crew alongside his unique and hilarious sense of humor.”
“I stand by Johnny because I have always seen and felt a true caring and loving man in him … an extraordinary and unique artist who has listened to anyone who needed his help,” he noted. At the end of his statement, the actor gushed over Johnny whom he dubbed “a good human being, trapped in the lies and manipulations of toxic beings and yet smiling and loving us all in spite of it.”
5. Candace Owens
Right-wing political commentator Candace Owens had also spoken out strongly in support of Johnny. Calling Johnny’s ex Amber a “liar from day one,” Candace said on her show “Candace”, “It has been absolutely ridiculous to see what that woman was allowed to do because she just flew under the radar of the Me Too movement.”
“There was more than enough evidence to convict her from the very beginning of being an extremely abusive partner she is,” she continued. “[Amber] is every bit an example of what I’d refer to when I refer to toxic feminism.”
6. Joe Rogan
Comedian and podcast host Joe Rogan has also been vocal in his support for Johnny amid the latter’s legal battle against Amber. During an April episode of “The Joe Rogan Experience” podcast with his guest Jessica Kirson, Joe slammed the “Aquaman” actress.
“You’re seeing all the crazy come out,” Joe said of the defamation trial involving Johnny and Amber, who were married for less than two years. “Doug Stanhope knows her. Stanhope’s buddies with Johnny Depp. He wrote something, like an essay about how full of s**t she is, and she threatened to sue him, and I think he had to wind up taking it down. I hope I’m not f**king that up. But he knows her well… He’s like, ‘She’s out of her f**king mind,’ like a crazy actress…those are real.”
Joe continued, “There’s something wrong with her. There’s something wrong. There’s some sort of mental issue.”
7. Paul Bettany
Paul Bettany had shown his support to Johnny. The Vision depictor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe shared his supportive message to Johnny all the way back in 2016.
“known Johnny Depp for years and through several relationships. He’s the sweetest, kindest, gentlest man that I’ve ever known,” he tweeted at the time. “Just saying.”
8. Jason Momoa
Jason Momoa may be working with Amber in “Aquaman”, but he made it clear that he’s Team Johnny. The “Game of Thrones” alum appeared to show his support for Johnny in a subtle way.
Fans of Johnny claimed that Momoa followed the “Pirates of the Caribbean” star on Instagram. And it was said that Jason only started following Johnny after the Johnny vs Amber legal battle had commenced.
9. Winona Ryder
Johnny’s ex Winona Ryder defended him during his 2020 trial. “I am aware of the violence allegations that have been made publicly for the last few years by Johnny Depp’s ex-wife Amber Heard,” she said in a statement.
The “Stranger Things” actress, who dated Johnny for four years, added, “The idea that he is an incredibly violent person is the farthest thing from the Johnny I knew and loved. I cannot wrap my head around these accusations. He was never, never violent towards me. He was never, never abusive at all towards me. He has never been violent or abusive towards anybody I have seen.”
“I truly and honestly only know him as a really good man – an incredibly loving, extremely caring guy who was so very protective of me and the people that he loves, and I felt so very, very safe with him,” she concluded.
10. Vanessa Paradis
Another ex-girlfriend of Johnny also defended the actor in 2020 during his U.K. court case. “I work as a musician, singer-songwriter, actress, and fashion model. I have known Johnny for more than 25 years. We’ve been partners for 14 years and we raised our two children together,” so she said.
“I am aware of the allegations which Amber Heard has publicly accused Johnny of for more than four years now,” the “A Monster in Paris” actress, who dated Johnny from 1998 to 2012, continued. “This is nothing like the true Johnny I have known, and from my personal experience of many years, I can say he was never violent or abusive to me.”
