The City of San Diego, Bureau of Standards, BCS San Diego County Health and Human Services Agency, HHSA, and the San Diego Regional Water Quality Control Board, RWQCB, are currently working on the implementation of the Countywide Ground Water Quality Monitoring System, GWPMS, including sampling of surface water and groundwater. The GWPMS system, which was designed and constructed under the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act, CERCLA, of 2009, collects information about the types and sources of contaminants in our drinking water system and sends that information to three Regional Drinking Water Control Agencies, DWCAs, in the Central Valley: the Department of Water Resources, DWR, in the City of Modesto, the Department of Public Health, DPH, in Merced, and the City of Fresno. We ask that you be patient while the various partners work through the implementation of the new system. In the meantime, the Health Department has recently completed a new website to inform the public about the new GWPMS system. The City of San Diego has been working with DWR on the implementation of GWPMS and is in the process of making many improvements to the system. We are working with DWR to ensure that the water quality data that will be collected online will include data collected at the surface, and the City currently does not expect to collect water quality data at depths more than 200 feet. The GWPMS website will provide information about quality parameters in the Citys water supply. However, you should continue to use our Monitoring Status tool to monitor progress on the site. The City cannot stress enough that the City is committed to providing safe drinking water to the citizens of San Diego, and we are doing everything within our power to do it. At this time, it is our goal to provide the highest quality water regardless of location. Please be assured that if you have water quality concerns that you should report them immediately to DWR or your local public health department. Please be safe and keep monitoring the website for the latest information.
