Captain Tom Moore: UK public claps in tribute
Captain Sir Tom Moore died surrounded by his family following a battle with coronavirus and pneumonia. Tonight, the nation clapped for the late army veteran as a tribute after he raised a staggering £33 million raised for the NHS last year.
Taking to Twitter this evening, television presenter Beverley Turner, 47, explained why she wasn’t joining in the clap for Sir Tom.
She wrote: “#SirTomMoore and his family did a brilliant job of raising £ for the nhs. It’s great that he lived to 100!
“It’s awesome that he got one last fab holiday. But I’m not clapping in the St to maintain the fear that imminent death is all around & we’re all in this together. We’re not.”(sic)
Many of the presenter’s 25,000 followers were less than impressed with her comment, including Piers Morgan, 55.

The latter shared her post on his page with the comment: “This is so pathetic.”
Another commented: “Ever heard the phrase if you can’t say anything nice then say nothing at all? Maybe think about that.”
A third penned: “We are all so glad you felt it was needed to tell your followers that you won’t be clapping a war hero and man who raised so much money for the NHS. So brave.”
Beverley – the ex-wife of James Cracknell – went on to tell her followers Piers had blocked her on the micro-blogging site.
She wrote: “Must have touched a nerve as been blocked by @piersmorgan.
“I don’t think he liked the fact that it seems – by many of your reactions- that I wasn’t completely wrong… And he does not like to be wrong.
“Maybe he’s manipulating you all too? Just a thought.”
Others took to Beverley’s post to defend her comments.
