Phil Spencer admits ‘sadness is immense’ after burying parents as he thanks fans
Location, Location, Location presenter Phil Spencer has spoken out for the first time following his parents’ funeral, to thank fans and his loved-ones for their support.
The Channel 4 star took to Instagram to share his gratitude for the “dozens” of floral tributes and “thoughtful” messages he had received after his mum and dad both died in a tragic car accident.
Phil shared two individual photos of his dad Richard, 89, and mum Anne, 82, before opening up on how the support he has been inundated with has helped the family cope with their “sadness and shock”.
He wrote: “When we buried Mum and Dad on Friday, and celebrated their lives with a Memorial service on Saturday, we had many Thank yous to say to our community in Kent, but I wanted to say a very large thank you beyond that, for the dozens of bunches of flowers, hundreds of letters and cards, and thousands of kind and thoughtful messages I’ve received over the last few weeks.
“The shock and sadness is immense, but I’d like you to know it has been diluted by such huge support from so many friends and followers; my family and I have appreciated every single kind word, message and prayer sent our way – thank you SO SO much.

“They have helped to bring some smiles and laughter in amongst our sadness.
“We continue to give thanks for, and at times are even managing to be able to celebrate, the fact that Mum and Dad were able to live, to love and then to leave their beloved farm together.
“None of us get to choose how we depart this world – but as a family we know in our heart of hearts that to go side by side next to your partner of 60 years is a beautiful thing.
“It would 100% have been what they would have wished for, and so we accept it in its entirety, and we thank God for his presence and for his remarkable plan.”

In August, Phil’s beloved parents were driving to a pub for lunch when their car suddenly veered off the access road into a shallow tributary river.
The heartbreaking accident took place on their farm at Littlebourne, near Canterbury, Kent.
After the crash, police and the fire brigade pulled Richard and Anne from the vehicle, and they were then rushed to hospital, where he was pronounced dead and his wife later died.
In the aftermath of the incident, Phil’s Location, Location, Location co-host Kirstie Allsopp said the presenter felt some comfort that his parents were together when they died.
Following the tragedy, Phil returned to work with Kirstie this week, with the latter sharing the update via her own social media page.
Speaking in the video, Kirstie began: “So we’re back at work filming on Location, Location, Location and I didn’t quite know what my next post on Instagram should be.
“Because the last post was about Phil’s mum and dad.”
Phil later appeared in the clip and thanked fans for their kind words, telling the camera: “I am grateful, thank you. I haven’t posted anything on Instagram either but I do appreciate people’s lovely comments.”
